Ammonia Refrigeration Principles Level II

An In-depth discussion of Ammonia Refrigeration Systems

Who should attend: Plant Managers, Operating Engineers, Maintenance Managers, Ammonia System Technicians, Ammonia System Operators, and Roundsman

Overview: This course is designed for students who have completed the “Basic Ammonia Refrigeration” course. Attendees who have not completed the previous course should have experience in the operation of an Ammonia Refrigeration System, or knowledge of ammonia refrigeration principles. The course will use Industrial Refrigeration II (published by The Refrigerating Engineers & Technicians Association) as a textbook. Course attendees will receive the text approximately one week in advance. This is to allow time for the attendees to study the text and complete some of the exercises prior to the class. In addition to the in depth coverage of the text, additional information (Manufacturers’ literature, other text, articles, videos, and bulletins) will be covered during the course.

 

Chapter 1 - Direct Expansion Systems

  • This section will cover applications of evaporators feed with an expansion device (Hand Expansion Valves, Fixed flow regulators, adjustable flow regulators, and Thermal Expansion valves

 

Chapter 2 - Flooded Systems

  • The discussion on Flooded Systems will center around evaporator operation, surge drum operations, and level control. During the discussion several types of liquid level control will be discussed, including the positive and negative attributes of each

 

Chapter 3 - Recirculated Systems

  • This will showcase the roots and modern day applications of Recirculated Systems. This includes evaporator concerns, recirculator package designs, and mechanical refrigerant pump concerns, as well as the operation of pumper drums

 

Chapter 4 - Secondary Coolant Systems

  • Though the use of brine circulation systems are on the decline, new applications of Ammonia Refrigeration systems are currently centering on secondary refrigerants. We will discuss common applications and the pitfalls associated with them

 

Chapter 5 - Booster Systems

  • As the design temperatures of Ammonia refrigeration systems drop, some as low as -60 F, the use of Booster Systems (multi-stage compression systems) increases. We will discuss chaining compressor into stages and the use of vessels and intermediate cooling

 

Chapter 6 - Refrigeration Piping Systems - Possibly the most crucial design criteria of the modern Ammonia Refrigeration system.. We will be discussing proper selection, placement, support, and maintenance of refrigerant piping Chapter 7 - "Heater" Type Heat Exchanges

  • Glycol Heaters and under floor heating systems are the most common uses for “heater” type heat exchangers

 

This course will be a prerequisite for ammonia Refrigeration III “Plant Maintenance.”

All Participants will receive a Course Manual, Continental Breakfast and Buffet Lunch. A typical class day will begin at 8:00 AM and will adjourn around 4:30 PM. Classes are held at Wagner-Meinert Inc. 7617 Freedom Way Ft. Wayne, Indiana.

CANCELLATION POLICY: To provide the best learning environment, we limit the class size. This often results in interested persons being placed on a waiting list. If you wish to cancel your employee’s attendance at one of our seminars, you may do so up to 21 days prior to the first day of the seminar with no cost incurred. If cancellation is made less than 21 days, 1/2 of the seminar cost will be billed, unless previous arrangements have been made If you fail to cancel or cancel within 48 hours and your employee does not attend the seminar, you will be billed for the entire seminar cost.. A person who is signed up and is unable to attend, may at no additional fee, send a qualified substitute.
