Basic Ammonia Refrigeration Principles

A Four Day Seminar Designed for the Practicing Ammonia Technician

Who should attend: Engineers, Maintenance Operators, Safety Personnel, Members of Management, and Human Resource Personnel.

Overview: This seminar is specifically directed to Plant Engineers, Maintenance personnel, and all individuals concerned with more efficient operation of their Industrial Refrigeration Systems. Based on the RETA Course One manual, it is intended as a complete and total introductory refrigeration course, mixed with practical field examples and open forum discussion. A brief opening section describes the history of refrigeration from its beginning through the modern day, state-of –the-art Industrial Refrigeration Facility.

 

Chapter 1 - Will include a look at the role of technicians in the Ammonia Refrigeration Industry and the basic Refrigeration Cycle and it’s components:

  • Cooling
  • Refrigerants
  • Expansion Valve
  • Pressure
  • Compressor
  • Condenser
  • The Refrigeration Cycle

 

Chapter 2 - Varying factors which must be reviewed in the design and operation of a refrigeration facility will be examined in this section, including

  • Pressure Measurements
  • Heat Transfer
  • Specific and Latent Heat
  • Temperature Measurement
  • Refrigeration Load Calculations

 

Chapter 3 - Properties Of Refrigeration

  • Equipment and Refrigeration Cost
  • Handling Refrigerants

 

Chapter 4 - Refrigeration Tables

  • Preplanning for alternate releases
  • Pressure Drop
  • Condensing Temperature
  • Superheated and Sub-cooled Refrigerants

 

Chapter 5 - Refrigerant Compressor types and styles

  • Reciprocating Compressors
  • Rotary Screw Compressors
  • Rotary Vane Compressors

 

Chapter 6 - Operation and Maintenance of Compressors

 

Chapter 7 - Lubricating, Oil Cooling and Lubricants

 

Chapter 8 - Evaporators, Air and Liquid Cooling Units, and Defrost

 

Chapter 9 - Evaporative Condensers, Water Cooler Condensers, Receivers and Vessel Design

 

Chapter 10 - Purging All Participants will receive a Course Manual, Continental Breakfast and Buffet Lunch.

 

A typical class day will begin at 8:00 AM and will adjourn around 4:30 PM. Classes are held at Wagner-Meinert Inc. 7617 Freedom Way Ft. Wayne, Indiana.

CANCELLATION POLICY: To provide the best learning environment, we limit the class size. This often results in interested persons being placed on a waiting list. If you wish to cancel your employee’s attendance at one of our seminars, you may do so up to 21 days prior to the first day of the seminar with no cost incurred. If cancellation is made less than 21 days, 1/2 of the seminar cost will be billed, unless previous arrangements have been made If you fail to cancel or cancel within 48 hours and your employee does not attend the seminar, you will be billed for the entire seminar cost.. A person who is signed up and is unable to attend, may at no additional fee, send a qualified substitute.
